What am I designing? What’s the theme?

You are creating a unique design for Sock ‘n’ Buskin, to be showcased on our merchandise. Your design should include either the Sock ‘n’ Buskin name, logo, or both! The theme in general is Sock ‘n’ Buskin – how does it make you feel? How could you wrap SnB up in a shirt? What really makes you think of SnB? Is it the community, the shows we put on?

How can I submit my design?

Through our website. Fill out the form on our submissions page during the contest to send us a copy of your entry. You can find it by hovering over the “Merch Contest” item in the nav menu and clicking “Submissions” once the contest begins. Make sure to include any other information on your design that you want us to have – what type of items you’d like to see it on (shirts, mugs, socks, etc.), or any colours that you think your design would look best on. Remember to fill out all sections of the form so that we can contact you – any designs without attached contact information will not be considered.

Please submit all art in a generic image format – no propriety formats (such as PSDs) will be accepted.

How long do I have to submit my entry?

Designs may be submitted from December 1st until December 30th  at 11:55 PM, 2018.

How many entries can I submit?

As many as you would like! However, each entry must be submitted separately. If an entry is submitted that contains 2 or more designs, only the first will be considered.

Who can participate?

The merch design contest is open to current Carleton students and alumni.

How can I win?

The Sock ‘n’ Buskin board of executives will select 5 designs from the submissions as potential winners. Once the board has chosen, the community will be asked to vote for their favourite design. The voting period will last for one week, and any ties will be broken by Sock ‘n’ Buskin’s Artistic Directors.

After voting closes, the winning artist will be notified that they have won within 24 hours.

What do I win?

The first-place winner will win one of each item that their design is printed on, in their preferred size.

How can I buy the winning merchandise?

After the winner is chosen, it will be possible to order merchandise through our website. You will be able to pick up and pay for your order in person at our office in Kailash Mital theatre when the merchandise becomes available.

Is there anything else that I should know?

All designs for this contest must be submitted online – submissions that are emailed or messaged to Sock ‘n’ Buskin will not be considered.

Designs may have identifying information removed for judging, but any signatures present will be included on the merchandise itself. We want to ensure that all entries are treated equally!

Bold, bright, simple colours often look best on shirts.

No plagiarism will be tolerated.

Do not use assets that you don’t have a right to use. This includes, but is not limited to, using images, fonts, and brushes that are proprietary or require a licensing fee for works that are redistributed or for non-personal use. We encourage everyone to get creative, and to be respectful to other artists!
