Expo 2018

Every year, Carleton University holds Carleton Expo, a day where clubs on campus can showcase and introduce their club to new students. One such club is Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre Company. SnB also recently hosted their 2018/19 season Launch Party.

SnB is Carleton’s student-run theatre company, and has been active since 1943. At each Expo, SnB talks to new and returning students about the company, invites students to sign up for their newsletter, and informs students about the upcoming season Launch Party. At this year’s Expo, 111 students signed up for SnB’s newsletter to stay in the loop for acting and volunteering opportunities.

Two days after Expo, on Sep. 6th, Sock ‘n’ Buskin opened the doors of Kailash Mital Theatre for their 2018/19 season Launch Party. Approximately 50 students attended, and 33 new students signed up for the SnB newsletter.

To give the students insight into how the club works, SnB’s Artistic Directors Molly and Christian introduced themselves and talked about the company. The members of SnB’s Board of Executives then introduced themselves and explained their roles, from social media to finance to events planning. After that, the directors and stage managers of each show gave speeches about their respective shows. Attendees then were able to go down and get tours of the costume room, the dressing rooms, the SnB office, and the woodshop in order to better understand what goes on during a production of a show from start to finish. They were also given the opportunity to speak with board members and voice any questions or comments that they had. The Launch Party was a major success and went past its original end time thanks to all the fun.

Students and faculty of Carleton should be very excited for this season. Sock ‘n’ Buskin is putting on four amazing shows this year that are bound to hook any audience.

Opening up the season is a classic William Shakespeare rendition of Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, directed by Olivia Botelho. It runs for five days from Nov. 16-18th to the 22-23rd.

The next three shows will all be taking place in 2019. The first show of 2019 will be John Cariani’s Almost Maine, directed by Sarah Ashton. This show will run from Jan. 18-19th to the 25-26th.

Mystery will be afoot next in Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. Directed by Jasmine Stamos, the show will run from Feb. 1-3rd to the 8-9th.

The last show of the season will run from Mar. 14-17th and it will be a performance of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. This show will be directed by Sheldon Parathundyil.

Sock ‘n’ Buskin’s 75th season will be a special one; make sure to come experience all the performances.
