Little Women follows the March sisters—Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy—growing up in Massachusetts during the American Civil War. With their father away serving in the Union Army, they are guided by their wise and loving mother, Marmee. Jo pours herself into her writing, Meg dreams of romance and a beautiful home, Beth devotes herself to music and family, and Amy strives to perfect her art and poise. Through first loves, losses, sibling quarrels, and the joys of creativity, the sisters navigate the exhilarating and uncertain journey to adulthood.
Does not feel comfortable with the parameters of her gender.
Extremely ambitious and frustrated by the distance between where she is and where she wants to be. Impatient.
Boyish and rough-and-tumble. Can be quite awkward or abrupt; has a bad temper when riled. Passionate. Ahead of her time.
Acts as Marmee’s second in the house. A romantic at heart–likes to dress up and have little luxuries in life. Hates being poor. Can be dramatic at times.
Very sweet and paralytically shy; social anxieties. Loves deeply and has deep empathy for everyone. Loves the simple things in life. Observant. Quick to forgive.
The youngest of the March sisters. Opinionated, spunky, and ambitious with a passion for art. Perhaps a bit spoiled. A perfect little lady- except for her temper.
A sweet and handsome young man who finds meaning when he meets the Marches. Humourous, charming, and caring as well as a natural musician. Does not always fit comfortably within the parameters of his given gender role. In love with Jo.
Laurie’s grandfather, responsible for Laurie’s upbringing. A very wealthy, generous, and loving man. May be unintentionally frightening, but is a father like figure to all and a mentor to Beth.
The strong and faithful matriarch of the March family.
Intelligent and warm, generous and kind, and necessarily practical. Good sense of humor and strong leadership qualities.
Protective and nurturing, but also trusting and empowering towards those she loves (which is… everyone).
Laurie’s sometimes stiff and awkward tutor. A poor man. Intelligent. Feels deeply. Madly in love with Meg. Grows to feel protective of the March family.
The March’s longtime housekeeper, cook, and de facto babysitter. A treasure; intimidating; a traditionalist. Part of the family.
Fighting in the War. Comes home briefly for Christmas. Endearing, wise, and a mentor to Jo.
The most unpleasant old woman. Has lots of money and privilege, along with judgmental political and personal opinions.
Smridhi is in her final year at Carleton in the Bachelors of Global and International Studies! She considers this lovely project her “last hurrah” in student theatre before she enters the spooky world of adulthood. Her directing credits include: The Outsiders (Sock N’ Buskin, 2024) and Little Rosie Sparks and the Amazing Alice Gilligan (National Theatre School Festival, 2023). You may recognize her as the Sock N’ Buskin Treasurer/Finance Bro for two seasons running. She lived in Fiji last summer, and spent this summer hanging sloth style on zip lines and reading the classic Louisa May Alcott tale. In her free time she loves to read, do the crossword, and get way too competitive in Catan. During the space of this production, Smridhi encourages everyone to try something out of their comfort zone in the spirit of creating art. She dedicates everything she does and every breath she takes to her puppy back home, Duke.
Corey is going into his third year studying Cognitive Science with a concentration in Computation and Cognition. He began with SnB during his first year as an actor in The Outsiders and has continued to act with the company. He has directorial experience from high school and is so excited to expand that further. Besides his passion for theatre, Corey spends his time playing games, playing music, and generally nerding around.
After taking a break from their studies, Haileigh will be returning to uOttawa’s theatre program this fall. In their year off, they had the pleasure of developing their stage management skills on 6 different Ottawa theatre productions, including Sock ‘n’ Buskin’s first show of their 81st season, 1984 as assistant stage manager. They could not be more excited to return to SnB and apply the wisdom gained from their 5 shows since 1984, as well as from their studies. When not working on classic plays like The Great Gatsby (UOTC, 2023) or Little Women, Haileigh can be seen working as the stage manager for musical theatre productions like Legally Blonde (CMTS, 2025) or Ride The Cyclone (LBMT, 2025). They are working on SnB’s final show this season, but you can catch them in the booth for the upcoming Head Over Heels musical production (Suzart, Dec 2025) in the meantime, along with the 2 other incredible Sock ‘n’ Buskin shows presented before Little Women hits the stage.
Sasandee is a third-year Industrial Design student with a minor in Entrepreneurship. As this is her first year with Sock ‘n’ Buskin, she’s thrilled to be stepping into the role of Assistant Stage Manager for Little Women. With a lifelong passion for film, photography, and artistic expression, she enjoys taking on projects that keep her on her toes. Her background ranges from content writing for Outlines, the Industrial Design student-led publication, and freelance graphic design to volunteering with non-profits— most recently at an art gallery. Outside of theatre, she loves watching movies, working on design projects, and exploring the outdoors. She is excited to help bring the production to life behind the scenes and connect with the SnB community!
After taking a break from her studies she returned for her final year with SnB. Fiza is a Cognitive Psychology major who first found her place with the company as a set painter during the 80th season for Outsiders. With a lifelong passion for art, painting and storytelling she brings creativity and care to every project she joins. Fiza couldn’t be happier joining as ASM for Little Women, a story she has loved since high school after seeing Winona Ryder on screen, she is excited to support the creative process and bring the production to life. Fiza feels especially grateful to be completing her final year alongside the same director who first welcomed her into SnB. In her previous credits (82nd Season) she spread Rumors at the country club and in 1984 kept a watchful eye on every brushstroke in true big brother fashion.
